Hi, congrats on making the move, partner mulled over renting her UK property but decided against but she didn't rent in Spain, she was lucky enough to be able to holiday with an old friend and colleague and got a feel for this place from 2-3 years doing that.

When the chance came to purchase her property she was well fixed and comfortable and confident enough to do just that and almost 3 years on has never been so happy....

...

The village she lives in is a small place called Urcal, a few minutes from the nearest town of Huercal over a, 10 minutes from the A7 E15 motorway, 40 minutes from the coast, H/O is a nice size, busy, great hospital, traffic links aren't the best but if you're looking to drive the roads are great, the Spanish seem to forget how to indicate once they get their driving licences but you need as much all round observation here as anywhere.

Urcal is a nice mix of Spanish and ex-pats, very friendly, the probably main bar is a great meeting place both mornings and evenings, everyone pitches in and helps where and when needed. You'll make friends in no time. Plenty of good restaurants in Mojacar doing 3 courses, 12 starters, 12 mains and 12 desserts lol for an average €15,

There's nice properties available at good prices, some with pools, mostly served by Andy Voss and his great team who have an office in H/O. Everyone can and probably will suggest/recommend a good solicitor/avocado, call them what you will, partner used Mandy and Chris from Cam concepts and couldn't recommend them highly enough for help with anything you can think of.

Another excellent service is on hand at C.A.T Services in La Alfoquia.

There's a Dames who meet every third Wednesday who organise events and trips, they got a coach of 40 odd last week for a trip up to the Sierra Nevada mountains and just this Sunday, today the local bar organised a wine tasting trip which I doubt will be the last. Most everyone is linked on messenger and Facebook, WhatsApp etc. There's a birthday fairly regularly either at the bar or come the warmer summer months bbq's at folks homes, you get the picture ?? Lol,

Urcal has been featured on place in the sun a couple of times too.

Oh, darts night Thursday too lol.  Come on down lol

hi i was wondering what the weather was like in the winter in your area...of course i know its cold but are there sunny  or clear days and how much rain..we live in tenerife so have been spoilt by the weather..but the calimas (sand storms from sahara) are getting worse and we are finding the air not to be as good as we would like for our health..so....any further insight into your area would be great....thanks andy and sue collier

Hi Lesley.

We didnt appear but the house did. Another couple were on the show and fortunately for us, didnt buy it. It was a bit surreal because we viewed, and agreed to buy it before that particular show aired. So there we were, watching this other couple viewing OUR house, and we knew they wouldn't be buying it. 😂

We're all good here. We're actually in El Prado, which is a reasonable distance outside Arboleas itself. Our house is at the end of a cul de sac, so no through traffic and noboby to bring Covid 19 with them.

My better half and I performed our own lockdown Thursday week ago, after we encountered all the panic buying twats at Lidl in Albox. It was almost funny, but nonetheless, pathetic. We watched in awe as we observed the world's biggest moron filling up his Range Rover with water. 😁

Anyway, once this nightmare is over, if you come to the Arboleas/Albox area, please get in touch and we'll meet up. Look after yourself.

Best wishes. Lee.

Hi. We arrived to live here at perhaps the worst time weather wise. January and you'll certainly be wearing a jumper and a coat during the day. Nothing very heavy though. You'll also be needing heating at night.

Once we got into February, when the sun shone, there was a fair amount of warmth and the coat stayed in the car.

Last week of February until now, some beautiful, sunny days, some where had the water temp in the pool been a bit higher, i would have been in there. Currently, a bit of a cool spell and then spring should be here.

After all that waffle, short summary, cool days, but unlike England, mostly dry and very tolerable. Incidently, vital bit of data for you. I live just outside Arboleas. I wouldn't speak to the weather elsewhere. Hope this is of use. Cheers. Lee.

Hi Andy. The chances are high that I'm going to piss a few people off, but you asked. Here in Arboleas,  there are a good few expats and they are all pretty decent folk.

However, its my sad duty to tell you that up in Albox, I sadly encountered some members of the twat element when it was becoming clear that the lockdown was imminent. They were the ones filling large SUV's with bottles of water and bog rolls.

From here to Mojacar is just over 30 minutes away and the main roads are all good quality. Vera Playa is nearer, but my wife and I prefer the restaurants in Mojacar.

There are bars a plenty just about everywhere. Whether they're any good or not, I cant really tell you. Neither my wife or I are big drinkers. That said,  our local, Bar El Carill makes a very decent coffee at a crazy €1 per cup.

The very best bit of advice I can offer you is to spend a week or two just touring around the area and seeing it for yourself. My wife and I have been here just over two months and have settled in so weĺl, it really feels like home, especially as our neighbours are exceptionally nice people and have becone good friends. Its also well worth telling you that Arboleas and its immediate surrounds are pretty rural and very quiet. I appreciate that wont be everybody's cup of tea. Hence you would be very wise to do some serious scouting before making a decision.

I wish you the best of for luck and if I can help further, please ask. I'm retired with all the time in the world to assist.

Best wishes. Lee

It's a better than fair bet that house viewing wont be deemed as essential journies. I think the property market will be in hibernation for a while.

Best wishes. Lee
