Now this leads to some amusement. The sellers of our house have said we can have whatever furniture we want. That was in September when we viewed the house.

We have subsequently been asked what we want to keep and what we want removed. The truth of the matter is we have completely forgotten what's there.

I'm flying over for a quick visit in a couple of weeks for another look and to decide on the matter.

The scary thing about all of this is that I've spent more time buying a shirt than we did deciding on the house.

On a serious note, another factor you need to build onto bringing furniture vs buying is the cost of movers from the UK to southern Spain. We shopped around a lot and ended up with what we think is a very good deal, and it's still north of four grand.

You also need to ask any prospective movers how long it will take from your UK address to Spain. Some of them use what I term the "Stupid Route," which is using the short crossing to Calais and then doubling the distance to drive. Remember, were talking HGV so the journey is under tachograph laws which limits the driving to around 400kms per day.

Lots to think about. Good luck and hope to see you in Arboleas in the summer.

Cheers. Lee

Welcome to the forum. As others have said research research research is key. We moved to Arboleas in June this year after being let down on a property in Albox because the legal papers were incorrect. Luckily we had a fabulous lawyer. Be careful who you appoint as lawyer. NEVER use a lawyer recommended by the estate agent.  Our purchase took 3 weeks from start to finish. If buying with furniture get an inventory included in your purchase contract. Allow 8% on top of your purchase for taxes plus lawyer fee, pro rata utility charges so say 10% on top all in.

Our original wish list was inland with no direct neighbours and a view with pool and definitely not Arboleas. BUT when our other property purchase fell through our agent chose us our current property to view and we fell in love with it. We have direct neighbours but we are private, we have magnificent views and a pool and we absolutely love it. We are 4 km from Arboleas town and have two local bars within walking distance.

Good luck in finding your dream home.

Best wishes

Michelle & Richard

Our lawyer is based in mojacar. They will tell you which areas to avoid regarding illegal properties etc. Only a couple of hundred euros dearer than others but worth every euro when it’s your life savings. If it has a pool make sure it’s on the feeds before signing or you’ll end up paying taxes in future, also same for brick built sheds, garages, annexe, etc.

Best wishes

Lived here in San Juan de Los Terreros since 2005. My absolute best advice/opinion on anyone moving to Spain, find a cheap rent first and explore, a lot of people buy quickly and sometimes it may not be the area/place you imagined, and if you buy in haste, selling a house where there are other properties of a similar type may take you quite a long time.Think of things like being able to drive, there isn't much public transport except in the big big cities like Madrid and Barcelona for example. Sometimes you may have an idea of being 30/40 minutes or so from the coast just to get the property of your dreams at a brilliant price, but then later you may wish you had explored a bit more and not been hasty! But once you've had a good look around and weighed up the options and thought carefully, it's a very good move!!

Hi, good luck with your move. When we moved over we used: https://www.anyvan.com a brilliant service where you put down what you want to move from where ever to wherever you want to go. All the removal companies registered with Anyvan.com can see your requirements and if interested will then bid against each other for your business as they can see what quotes you will get. We had a furniture from a 3 bed house moved over to Spain from SW England for just under £1,000, back in 2014.  Worth a try.
