Hi. We are moving to Arboleas in June 2016 and are not of retirement age yet. Can anyone suggest a good healthcare company to use in Arboleas region? Has anyone signed on to the convenio especial as apparently it gives you access to state healthcare for a monthly fee. We have been given letters from Newcastle letting Spain know we are no longer entitled to healthcare in England and was told to take them to the local social security office. Any help on this subject would be greatly received.

Hi

I am not sure about the health care in Arboleas but I do know about the general health care in Spain:

Apparently the "Convenio Especial" or the Valencian health payments would start after you've been there for a year. However, we have neighbours who are under retirement age and have become Residents, in our area of Spain, who get a temporary healthcard issued every 6 months in the town hall and only pay for prescriptions. The medical services in Spain are very good - There should be a medical centre near you where you may get some information.

Your nearest town hall to Arboleas may be able to issue you with health cards once you become residents and go on the padron, which is the electoral roll equivalent in Spain.

I've not heard of anyone taking a letter to the social security office in Spain as usually the town hall deals with this or gives out the information of what to do.I would think the local town hall should be your first port of call for information and go from there.

If you need to know anything else just ask on here.

Good luck with your move.
