I will be retiring in about 3-4 years time and we are looking at places to move to in Spain and like what we’ve seen on tv and the internet. We are looking for a hotel local to Arboleas so we can look around. Arboleas and Albox look lovely.

We stayed in Hotel Meson Arboleus when we were house- hunting a few years back and have gone to meals there since.  Friendly people and good food, the rooms were pleasant not smart but the beds were comfortable and it was all clean.  Rooms at the back are quiet.

I think you're approaching buying property in Spain in the wrong way. For a start 3/4 days is a waste of your time in your real quest. Secondly, I think you're a lamb to the slaughter. Thirdly, you are about to spend a huge amount of money; can you do so comfortable without selling your primary residence (presumably in the UK?

Spend some time reading my previous posts on property purchase in Spain on this forum. Take notes; not verbal notes. Wise up! You probably feel like shooting me at this moment, but I think you'll gain from what I've written on the subject.

Initial Advice:- Spend no less than six weeks in the location where you wish to buy. You'll learn more by doing this than speaking to a thousand real estate agents. You're going to buy in Spain only once, do it right and don't leave your brains at the airport.

wise words from Matthew we came over for a 3/4 day trip in 2003 and got pulled into a deal that cost us a lot of heartache and money when we bought off plan a villa that we did not know was on rural land and therefore not legal .  We managed to sell it 16 years later and then bought a flat in Mojacar which although it was brand new and legal has also given us lots of problems in the state of the build itself and after purchase you find that the builder is not interested.  We have also been paying increasing maintenance for repairs to the first blocks because of build decisions there, community areas being everyone's responsibility.

Best if you can to come here and rent for a good 3 months to get a feel for what it's like in the area and get feedback from the residents.  Arboleas was not a good place for us and we found Albox very boring.  Far more lively on the coast if you can afford it.

Good general advice  no doubt.  They mentioned wanting a hotel near Arboleus, NOT that he/she was intending to stay for 'only 3/4  days', which they have been criticised for!  The intellectual TV  'Spanish property' programms we are served so regularly on English TV (I don't know about Ireland?) frequently show people buying in Arboleus and Albox as well as Mojacar, along with detailed pictures of properties  prices and facilities so it would be reasonable to assume the poster likes these, when asking a mild question about hotels.  We pottered around Spain, staying in hotels for a a few nights at a time for an enjoyable couple of years 'just looking' and were fortunate in finding our perfect place, they might do the same in the three years they mentioned ....  Good Luck and have fun anyway to them

A simple search on hotels.com or similar, with a reading of reviews should suffice.  It's what we did, finding Bed and Breakfast venues more than sufficient for our needs whilst we explored areas.  All depends on your budget and tastes.
