Hi,
I have been told that when applying for a visa the spanish embassy will keep your passport until your application has been processed.
Can anyone advise please
Many thanks

Hi Carol
We applied for our NLV on 3/10/22 at the Spanish Consulate in London and yes they keep your passport until the Visa is issued which in our case was 31/10/22 but please be aware that it could be considerably longer.

My friend done her visa and I'm sure you have a option to keep it. And when the visa is ready when you go back its then the visa us put into passport. Best best is ring consulate and ask the question.
My friends in Canada have applied, and the consulate has retained their passports. They are six weeks on and waiting for them to be returned.

Is there an option to travel over and then apply for your non lucrative Visa please?

We applied for our visa on 29th Sept 22, we were given our passports back as they said it could take up to 12 weeks. We came back to spain and were informed on 1st November that the visa was ready. We flew back to UK 7th Nov, posted passports on 8th November, and received them back with our visas on 12th flight booked for tomorrow to start our new life in Spain.

Sriley, thank you, that was really helpful!
If this happens I’m hoping just one of us could fly back to post and recurve back the passports, as we will have brought our dog out initially, is it something just one of a couple could do?
Good luck with starting your new life in the Sun! ☀️
