I wish to issue a warning regarding the dinner plates on sale in Modus Albox store. They do not stand heat!

We always prefer to eat hot meals served on warm plates, as most of us do. I warmed up a white (plastic?) plate over a pan simmering for a few minutes, not boiling as I have done for decades. Within a couple of minutes the plate completely shattered. Never, in over 50 years of warming plates in this manner have I ever had one shatter!

The plates are white, appear well made, but do not have any name or symbol of the company that made them. They have many sizes well displayed along a long shelf. The dinner plate size retails at 3.50....

I have had a similar thing happen to me. However, the plate was from a renowned manufacturer ( Churchill ) that supplies tableware to the hospitality industry.

My guess is that this was probably a ‘one off’ as mine was. My plate was replaced FOC. I hope yours will be.

Thank you for your reply. At first last Monday, I immediately thought the pan was boiling at a far too high temperature, so was my fault. I threw the plate away, thinking, serves me right for buying a cheap plate. Then this morning I thought it best to post what happened to prevent anybody from being scolded.....plate long gone...but I shall take heed from your comment re, "it may be a one off as it happened to me with a more expensive plate"...thanks again.

Well my hubby thinks I'm being OTT as I'm insisting on bringing my Denby crockery out with me and my mixing bowl! You have secured my argument, thank you!

My hubby has said I can't bring my crockery and I have said no way is it not happening... a girl's got to have her essentials as its not like he does anything in the kitchen! The point being I think the person regretted buying cheap plates and I will not know what is good/bad to purchase in Spain so I'd prefer to have what I know and like.

'as its not like he does anything in the kitchen!'

I understand everything you say. But my point is would you rather take the risk of having a Denby plate break or some piece of cheap pottery?

I can't begin to decribe the sight of a brand new kitchen with one cabinet full of Denby that fell off the wall after two days. It was a long time ago. there were no survivors.

But after that we understood the meaning of 'Sunday best'.

Leave the Denby where its safe and secure. A cheap plate is just that. A cheap plate. If it breaks so be it. Its not the end of your Denby world.

Oh no I feel your pain!

But in all fairness its not a really really precious set ( as white James Martin range) and  it annoys the hell out of me as  the plates too big to go in the wall units! My new stuff is staying  firmly at home (I'm collecting Kiln at the moment). It will come over in the car and last however long it lasts.

Thank you for the response.....Denby!...we had a set of Denby, greenish/blueish colours, back in the UK many years ago. The best made, ever!

Totally agree, it is built to last ... except when you have the odd human accident of dropping on the floor. I still have much of my regency green set left when I got married 28 years ago... certainly lasts the test of time!
