Hi all. I'm writing this in an Essex hotel room at 5am and I have hardly had a minutes sleep all night. I'm getting up this morning in Essex and going to bed tonight in our new home in Arboleas. It's a pretty big day.

I could do with a bit of input from your collective local knowledge please. We get into our new house tomorrow, but our furniture and other possessions dont arrive until sometime next week. It's definitely not the end of the world. We need to buy a few basic items and we will manage just fine. So here's where a bit of advice would be much appreciated.

No settees or armchairs yet, so we decided to buy a couple of good quality garden chairs, use them in the house for a while, and once our stuff is here they can go outside where they should be. So, recommendations for a decent garden furniture shop please?

Next item. Some sort of homeware store. We need some plates, mugs, a frying pan and a few other essentials. Suggestions please?

Lastly, could anyone please point us towards a good quality furniture store. We have two beds at the house, so no immediate rush, but we would like a king size for the master bedroom and it makes sense to get it in before the chaos of everything else turning up.

All advice most gratefully received.

Best wishes to all and so looking forward to being your neighbours. Lee & Carla

Hi Lee & Cara

I am so envious of you both -please keep in touch on the forum to let us know how you are getting on and any further advice re buying  furniture etc. We are coming out in March to do a bit of research in the Arboleas & Albox areas with the view of buying or renting before the end of the year.

Kind Regards

Marie

There are a couple of Chinese shops in Albox where you can buy plates etc.  For garden furniture and other furniture a trip to Murcia is worthwhile.  Leroy Merlin have lovely garden furniture, better quality and cheaper than Indalocio. There are a few retail parks where Leroy Merlin is located and they have sales on until the end of Feb.

Enjoy your new life in the sun!

Good luck for your new life in Spain.

I.would recommend IKEA in Murcia for many things that you could need.  Also in the Antas industrial estate opposite the Petrol station and Citroen in superstore Lopez they have  a wide variety of most things. In the same industrial estate there are various furniture shops worth looking at.   Carrefour in the Lorca shopping centre is Aldi a good place for garden and patio furniture, plates etc.

You do need to be thinking of keeping warm as it does get pretty cold at night at the moment so you will definately need heating, duvet etc and maybe  knee rugs as inland is always much colder in the winter than the coast.

Lee  best of luck with the move.   For garden furniture look no further than Inspired.  they are on the Antas Industrial Estate, Antas.   Bradley Richard's is your man.   he is very good to deal with and has top notch furniture at very competitive prices.   Tell him Mary & Tom sent you - he will look after you.

Either way the very best of luck to you in the move - you will not be disappointed.

Thank you all so much for this info. We have a couple of hours to spare in the morning, so the Antas advice seems like a good place to start. Not too far and a glowing recommendation.

By the way, I am now officially home. Writing this message from our room in the Hostel Meson. I can return the compliment by telling you good people that we both just had a really nice meal, a couple of drinks each and change from  €20 note. How bad?

Best wishes all. Lee

Good man Lee.  Welcome home lol.   We live in the next village Zurgena.  However we have a bar and restaurant in La Alfoquia called The Heather's.  Tonight we have Karaoke/Disco with a meal deal €4.90.  The chef in the Restaurant is known as Arboleas Ally and he has a great reputation for good food and reasonably.  Definitely the best sunday roast for miles   Opens wednesday to Saturday.

If you go to Antas - try Lopez for kitchen ware but we would strongly recommend Brad in Inspired for the furniture.

Enjoy your breakfast and get on the road lol.

Mary

Lee oops Restaurant opens Sunday 1 to 5.    Other days 1 to 10.      Maybe later in year will open Monday and tuesday.

Have a good day.   mary
