Am doing research on property in Arboleas/heurcal area and keep seeing properties with fly screens everywhere. Is there an issue in Almeria with flies or is it only in certain areas. Is it all the time or only at certain times.

Live in rural area in Uk and at harvest can be troublesome. Don’t want to get caught out when move over to Spain

Any info would be welcome.

Certain areas around Huércal-Overa, Urcal, Goñar etc. have some pig farms close by.  This of course can attract the flies, hence the flyscreens

Hi there,

we live in Arboleas, yes there are flies, and also flying Ants. And we are most grateful our house has got screens! We moved here from a rural house, now that was what you call flies!! The flies here are no worse than either England or Ireland, we've had lots of advice as to how to distract them, eg; putting rotten meat in a container in an area of the garden we don't use. You can find other ideas here from helpful people on the forum. Other than that, we love living here.

We have had a house in the country near Taberno and have now moved to the coast at Puerto Rey.  We had screens installed at the country house and as I type the guys are installing them at the coast.  Inland we had flies and other bugs on the coast it's mosquitoes.  We love spending time outside so for us it was a no brainer!  Others may disagree but life is too short for having to deal with bugs at mealtimes.  Hope this helps. K
