Sometimes I wonder about my wife, love her to bits but sometimes I wonder. Over the last 18 months I have explored lots of options to make a move to Spain as simple and as easy as possible. Having great grandparents who were Irish and German I explored the options of gaining citizen ship from both of these countries but as my German ancestor became a Brit back in 1904 and an Iris minister needs to be in a really good mood to allow great grandparents to qualify I had reached a point where the NLV and jumping through hoops seemed the only option. But ……. last night whilst my wife was talking with her Irish best friend, she said that she would love to go back to Antrim just to see where her Gran came form as she hadn’t been there for about 40 years and thinks it mould be nice to go back. Although I was not concentrating on their conversation I was suddenly intrigued and asked where did your gran come form? All these years of marriage and I never knew that my father-in-law was half Irish 🥳 In her defence my wife thought that as they were from the north they didn’t qualify 🙈 a few checks on the website and we have all of the documents required to register her on the foreign birth register and we just need to wait on the office reopening and we will be on the way to an Irish passport and a life in the sun Matthew I am opening the Guinness tonight just to be sure but I won’t be adding an ‘e’ to my whisky.

Thank you 1/8 German, 1/4 Orcadian, 1/4 Irish and the rest full blown Scots but I will use my wife’s 1/4 Irish if that means a life in the sun lol
1. "Half" Irish. Like I keep saying on other threads forget the 'alfs (a Paddy wouldn't be seen dead drinking an 'alf).
2. By now you should have shed your craving to wash your car on Sunday mornings. You should probably forget about ever washing your car.
3. You'll never have to stand in a queue again.
4. Learn not to pronounce "th" - It's dis, dat, dese, doze . . .
5. While driving just ensure your proper sided car wheels are at least three feet over the white line. It can help if your indicators are flashing too especially if you don't intend turning.
6. If there's an occasion being celebrated (birthday, anniversary, Christening etc) remember to arrive at least an hour and a half late. Anything earlier would be impolite in Ireland.
7. Never arrive at work early. If you do you're probably insulting your Irish fellow workers who haven't arrived yet, anyway.
You'd have to work at the above to get you through your first six months of being a Paddy. But, it might make sense for you to hold on. It may not be long before Scotland will be a full paid up member of the European Union.

Thanks for all the advice Matthew. I do like a wee bit of the black stuff and we Scots never do anything by ‘Alf so no issues their lol. Never been rigid to cleaning my car and I have a penchant for being late so maybe my great grandparents gave me a bit of Irish. Looks like the foreign birth register is closed at the moment so we might be a bit late to our life in the sun but we will get there 👍 love a wee game of footie but at 60 years young I fear my best days are behind me.

🍀. Good luck . I got my Irish passport thru in august from start to finish Oct 2020 . Well pleased . It appears from the occupation of my father and grandfather I may be part Colombian as it states both of them where dealers . Thankfully it was only in horses , cattle etc ,phew . To top it all off I’ve just got a 6 month long term let here in mojacar sod the 90 days . Hope it all goes well for you mr and Mrs Green . Told you I’d meet up with you in the lemon one day Mathew 😎🍺

I think you'll find that the flag you've added is that of the Ivory Coast, and NOT Ireland! Ireland's flag is green, white and gold, not gold, white and green! 😂

Get it right, Hopalong. The flag of the Rep of Ireland is Green, White and Orange. Try and guess what it represents (2 marks).

😁we always knew it as green white and gold, though we also know it as representing the whole island of Ireland, both the green and the orange, with the white of peace linking both. 😉
