I would think that being accompanied on the journey by you would minimise the stress on your dog. Many people use dog transport but it must be less stressful for the dog to travel with a familiar person.

We had a quote to bring our dog over, and was expensive. So we decided to hire a car from hertz, and came over two weeks ago by ferry. He is old, and he was stressed on ferry due to there being no grass for toilet. But he was ok as he was with us, definitely having your dog with you for the journey is better.
