Gary and Kirsty here, had a place in Arboleas for 9 years but only as a holiday home. Due to current climate, not the weather, ended up retiring early. So here now trying to get Residencia prior to the cut off n get driving licence sorted. Love the place and the people, thatโ€™s why we are here๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Welcome Gary & Kirsty to being permanent. We have recently moved (July) to the area due to the world climate too and retiring early.  We are loving our new life here.

Where abouts in Arboleas are you?  We in Los Carrascos.

We have just got the 1st part of our Residencia confirmed and waiting on dates to go to Almeria...now onto driving licences!! Gwyn & Paul ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Welcome Gary & Kirsty  to your permanent move. Arboleas is lovely. We retired here 3 years December 12th and never looked back. We took a long time to choose our home, we looked at 63 properties and bought the last one we looked at, picky some might say but it is our forever home so had to be right  Good luck with residencia.  Merry  xmas, stay safe ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ„

Hi

We moved here at the end of July 2020 after looking at 6 properties and losing hope but the last one ticked all our boxes in Los Higuerales... We had someone help us do all the leg work to get the residencia and driving licences sorted, just waiting on the collection dates now... We really didn't have to do much then pass our helper our paperwork details and have an eye test and drive a game controller for our licences.... Some say they do it all themselves but you got to know alot more behind the scenes and language to do it so I am not sure their words of it was easy we're true... But we didn't have a clue so the help was perfect.

Hi, yeah to reduce the hassle we have gone with CATs to sort the Residencia and driving licence. Mainly because time is tight and we want to get it sorted.

Have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stay Safe.

Hello both. We moved to Los Carrascos around 2months ago and felt immediately at home. Have to admit that learning Spanish isnt coming easy but we continue trying ๐Ÿค”

We are also going through residencia and are working with CAT services as it seems like a bit of a haul.

Good luck with your retirement.

Hi Michellex

U.K. driving licences are not accepted for residents in Spain for more than six months max - and 31 December latest. You will need to get the licence exchanged for a Spanish one as soon as you arrive as otherwise from 1 Jan you would need to obtain a Spanish licence afresh - and sit a Spanish driving test.

There is a โ€˜Graceโ€™ period for six months IF you apply to DGT by 31 December for an appointment to exchange your U.K. licence, the appointment to hand your licence over can then be fixed before 30 June 2021.

Chris

We are doing ours through CATs so they are dealing with everything.
