I am newly arrived pensioner and have just been granted Residencia. Yesterday I was in a cafe run by a Brit who told me his business was suffering badly due to UK pensioners having to leave Spain. He told me that (due to Brexit) many peoples pensions have been greatly reduced and they can’t ford to stay. Is this true? If so is it government pension or private pensions that are being effected? He said he didn’t know...  Can anyone throw some light on this?

Can't understand why he doesn't know as all U.K. pensions, when changed into euros, are affected by the exchange rate. This of course has been much lower than before the "brexit"vote.

Hi,

Of course currency fluctuations are to be feared but, to a degree, expected. Ah, the halcion days of the early 2000s. 1.47€ to the GBP. But then again the horror of virtual parity after the global financial crisis. So all our ££££pensions have been affected.

Fear and uncertainty are the main cause for the exodus among us OAPs. Will our current EU/UK benefits be maintained especially healthcare? If one has to take out Private Healthcare and existing conditions & medication costs are excluded, then what happens to an already stretched budget? When people tighten their belts then entertainment, including eating, out is the first to suffer.

We have met several who have sold but are now renting in the hope's of a reasonable Brexit outcome. The current UK Government & it's instability etc does little to engender confidence. But then there is hope!!!!! Always hope.

Any exodus of OAP's from Spain due to the lower exchange rate may be a misjudgement! The overall cost of living in the UK is still more expensive than that of Spain. I feel those making the move back might find life even more squeezed under the UK grey skies :(
