1. We are with Cajamar as it’s the only bank in San José - so a lot will depend on what’s available to you.
What is important to note is that Spanish banks work differently to UK banks - for example if you forget your pin, any bank staff can give it to you, wherever you are in Spain, which would be unthinkable in the UK!!! Plus there are charges that you might not expect - we were once charged 3€ for a statement to be printed - then the last time we weren’t charged anything however we have now discovered that the cash machine does that for us!
To avoid charges, we have an extra deposit account, which makes our current account free to use - you just need to check what your bank offers.
Again, depending on where you’re based, you may wish to check whether the staff speak English, so you can make sure you’re getting what you need and that you will be able to ask questions in the future
2. We use a transfer company called CurrencyFair to transfer money - we are really happy with them - you just need too keep an eye on the exchange rate and transfer money at a good time.
Good luck 😄😄
