Hi Bill and Caroline

We have lived in inland Costa del sol for 17 years, we are now looking for a retirement change . We live in a predominantly Spanish whitewashed village.  The Costa del sol is very busy so we are looking for an area at the end of this year , hopefully to rent ,  inland or costal Almeria.  We would like somewhere now with British  interaction , people , bars resturants as well as Spanish. .  The only place we know is Mojacar which we love but  but any other suitable places we could consider to suit our requirements ? We have dogs so an inland village/town may be more suitable .

Thanks in advance

Matthew

Hi Caroline and Bill, Mojacar Playa has many Brits who worked in CdS for years, but when it came to retirement Mojacar Playa is one of those places that suits them. Just for a start, Mojacar Playa will make you relax whether you want to or not. It's low rise, much quieter, slower pace of life, happy mix of Spaniards and expats, marginally warmer and drier weather. Property is cheaper too.

And most important of all, you know the mistakes you made in CdS (don't worry, we all make mistakes) so your future life in Costa Almería should be a doddle for you. Naturally, you'll have your memories, but there is more for you to discover in your new Costa. Also, you can bring your experience to Mojacar Playa and add to the present.

Go for it!

There’s also Vera Playa, very busy in Summer, and Las Buganvillas has a plethora of expat bars / cafes

Hi Caroline,

We live in Oria, its about  25 minutes to the coast, wonderful walks for dogs (i have 8) Oria is a large Spanish village with lots of British expats settled here, it has everything you could wish for, 20 mins into Albox, but as I say Oria has everything. Good luck in your hunt.

I could be in that area too. But, I am a bit concerned about the feral cats there as the new paintwork on our campervan would be under threat from them.

Feral cats are very particular about who they allow to mix with them. So dont worry they will 'smell' your distain a mile off, unless of course you are kindly enough to feed them.  But from previous posts I think there is more chance of seeing flying pigs!!!!!!!

I won't be feeding the feral cats. But, I will be travelling and staying in our campervan around the Palomares area. While giving the van its first outing of the year last weekend I  met several campervanners from the UK in Dungarvan (a town just a few miles from where we live). Dungarvan is a fairly short drive from the ferryport at Rosslare where the Brits enter Ireland. The town while not being particularly touristic until recently welcomes campervanners and there are free motorhome "perches" along the seafront. There is so much to see there I hope to meet much more UK people in the area with their motorhhomes.

Not only that it is at the start of a beautiful greenway where cyclists can cycle  all the way over a former railway line to Waterford city (25 miles). The views are beautiful and entirely free of charge. No doubt, some of the owners of the campervans will be visiting east and south east Spain with the information of the area I supplied to them. "El Sombrero" won't be the only campervan in Palomares this year.

If I'm in the mood I'll organise a convoy of motorhomes to visit Oria too. No doubt, we'll be welcomed with open arms. Campervanners spend a lot of money while touring and are friendly towards everybody. I sincerely hope the police reciprocate.
