Hi everyone. I am buying a holiday house near Albox, and want to drive a van over, taking the ferry. I’m thinking the least amount of driving will be from Portsmouth to Santander then on to Albox, with an overnight stay? Any recommendations and best routes appreciated.
Hi Pricey, I have driven the same trip Santander to Albox many times, I also have a house here. From Santander I stay at Mirasierra hotel, junction 99 on Autovia A1, approx 3 hours from Santander and stay for night. Great hotel just off motorway. Then 6 hours next day to Albox. Sat Nav will guide you no problem. Breaks the journey as Ferry docking times usually late so you get to the hotel about 10 pm.I
Hope that helps Mick.

Thank you Mick that’s very helpful. You wouldn’t happen to know how difficult it is to take things across in the car re customer? It seems very confusing!
Thanks again

Don't know bud, I used removal company but I understand there is import tax and customs duty. The hotel is at Santo Tome Del Puerto for Sat Nav.

Second this recommendation for Hotel Mirasierra, excellent rooms, good food and pet friendly.

Not sure what you’re intending to bring over, but I arrived in my car at Santander last week and noticed a large number of plants -both indoor and outdoor-had been confiscated because of the change following Brexit. I reckon the value in UK was about £200! The owner may just have been unlucky because this was in the pet queue for those arriving with a dog so the people on duty will have gone to the back to check the dog’s tag, but even so ….
We travel Santander, Burgos Madrid Albacete Murcia to travel to Palomares.
A good hotel id Hotel Tudanca on N! at Aranda de Duero. It also has a good resstaurant and sells its own very good wine.
Also dog friendly
Hi
We have just arrived last Friday sailing from Portsmouth to Bilbao by car. We have just bought a holiday home and the car was rammed with alsorts of bedding, crockery, BBQ (as cheaper in UK), we also had roof Box telescopic ladder and got through easily. Customs asked if we had a pet on board and then just waived us through, despite having a lot of alcohol etc from the UK. IF you have proof of home ownership you are allowed to bring in goods without paying customs. We drove to Arboleas in 9 hours changing drivers every 2-3hrs,easy driving.
Definitely the shortest driving route. I would offer one very general observation of driving in Spain. Desite the fact that all mainland European vehicles are fitted with trafficators, they are connected to the vehicle electrical system and switches to operate them are installed, you will be forgiven for thinking that Spanish drivers have been told that signalling their intentions is illegal. Beware, especially on roundabouts. Hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip.
