Hi Juliet thank you for that though i think its wrong to be taxed on uk property sale esp if your purchadingba spanish property&then pay added tax on top of that(which is fine as same in Uk) but not happy about paying CGT on my UK property so need to look into this as may have to empty my ban...

...k accounts&put miney under mattress&just come with the amount required as fingers crossed i will be getting an EU passport. I dont have issue paying "fair taxes" but not on my UK property. Have to see about this as im sure not everyone has done this when moving from UK as i will be applying for residency(not holiday home).😁

Can I please add a note of caution here? This is a public forum and you do not know who may be reading this.

It is … unwise… to even joke about defrauding AEAT, as they are utterly ruthless in their pursuit of tax owed, and fines for tax evasion here are astronomical - please just keep that in mind.

Whilst you may think it is “unfair” that they levy this tax, please remember it is you who is choosing to come here and if you do come here you by default accept the laws and regulations - including tax laws.

I wasnt looking to "de-fault" paying my tax as been paying it all my life so that assumption was wrong. I am trying to find outbabout CGT on my UK property&as for having a "joke" thats not my issue if people dont have sense of humour. I will be buying a property in spain, paying property tax on top, paying earn8ngs tax(if i choose to work) and tax on my private pension&savings and contributing to the local economy so i am.NOT A a tax evader&if people take offense by my posts then thats their issue not mine but thank you for your imput.

I would strongly agree, don't even think about joking of defrauding tax in Spain!

Hi James so am i right in thinking if i sell my uk home first (can stay with friends till i buy in spain) then come to spain to look at areas/property to purchase a property then if i find one i pay property tax on top of purchase price(think its around 10%) then i dont pay CGT on my uk property as it may take months to find right area/property but once i start procedures for residency i then pay tax on earnings&savings etc??

Hi

If you sale your UK property 1st then rent and move to Spain should not  be any CGT to pay.
