Hello everyone, I do have a NIE number, but it is a paper certificate. I have just tried to change internet provider and Spanish mobile but have been informed that I now need a photocard NIE (like the British driving licence). The only information I can find online is how to apply first time for a NIE or upgrade a residency card to the new TIE card. Please can anyone advise or help?

The new internet provider is acting on grave misinformation.  The green cards / paper certificates are still valid - that information is published on La Moncloa website … (somewhere) however if you DO find you have to change, it’s form EX26 if I recall and 12€ taxes on the correct modelo (again a -52 if I recall - can’t remember the 7 series number that preceded it - 720?)

I’ll have a look in my paperwork and see what I had to fill in

Just had a look at my documentation - just shows how reliable my memory is.  The form to be filled in is an EX23 - this is specific for those changing from Residencia to TIE.

The tasa / impuestos is a Modelo 790 código 012 - again, the 012 code is specifically for those wanting to change from Residencia to TIE. Once completed and printed, you take this to the bank who will take the relevant fee and print a receipt on this form - VERY IMPORTANT - make sure you have that modelo 790 with receipt printed on it, without presenting that, nothing happens..  You also need a photograph, a Certificado de Empadronimiento  no older than 3 months and of course an appointment, made online.

Thanks for taking the trouble to look up your paperwork and respond Dario. I'll get back on line and find the appropriate form. Kind regards, Angela

Hi Alicia - no I'm not a Resident of Spain. I am indeed talking about the NIE paperwork - what I have is just an A4 piece of white paper. The only information that I can find online is for changing the old Residencia paperwork to a new TIE (plastic) card with photo - similar to the British driving licence. I think maybe the new internet provider I'm dealing with is working on a misapprehension.

Aaaahhhhhh RIGHT.  Well that makes a difference.  With just a NIE, you cannot get a TIE - that’s for residents only (good pickup - thanks Alicia)

The other thing you’ll struggle with then is getting a Padrón for a new internet provider - as a non resident you MUST NOT go on the Padrón - it can have serious implications if you do.
