Hello All - with the vast knowledge here on the forum, can anyone enlighten me as to why Albox doesn’t get such good reviews as a potential spot to buy? My research leads me to believe there’s lots of illegal builds that need checking thoroughly? Many thanks for any input 👍😀

Albox doesn't get good reviews for good reasons. I don't want to get involved in the amount of alleged illegal builds in the area. But, if you are considering buying property in that general area you'll need to employ a gestor (solicitor) not an abogado (conveyancing agent).

Where you will enjoy living in Spain is personal to you and only you. You could have the most expensive property in another area, but your new next door neighbour could be a nightmare to have alongside. We had a thread on this forum where a lady was concerned about the amount of feral cats nearby; she has a cat phobia (not too uncommon). A poster here (feral cat feeder but refuses to clean up after the cats) informed her that she should stay in the UK.

I would advise before you buy anything in Albox (the price of property there won't mushroom overnight) you should live there for no less than five weeks in the off season (Nov-Mar). You'll learn much in that period.

Other way round Matthew :-D - Abogado is a Solicitor, Gestor is a conveyancing agent (translates as “Manager”)

Nomad, great suggestion by Matthew rent there during off-season or several times during the year. Our target area was Albox but found it wasn’t the area for us after several visits, you may, That’s why it’s has to be personal thing, you will know if it’s right for you, a good solicitor is essential. after an extensive search as far down as Malaga through to Alicante, we were happy to settle in Vélez-Blanco again this is not for everyone but we love it.

Now to be perfectly clear here that this is just in my opinion!!!! I visited Albox last year, I went into a shop to ask where we can eat and the lady listed a few places that were all British owned, we were looking for tapas!!! I did hear not one Spanish person , & every person on the street were British. It was just like being Britain not one bit like being in Spain .Why would anyone want to live in Albox when the ratio of British to Spainards is 80/20. Now you did ask why , & again I reiterate this is my opinion only..

Yvonne I totally see and understand your reasoning and this is why Albox was not for us, as we now integrated into Spanish community which is why we wanted to move to Spain. This is all personal choice, some people like the a network of expats around them.

I  think one should always buy on the coast. It's a much better climate. The interior is either too hot or cold. Plus isolation is a great consideration  when people get old. People I know who have bought in albox area have not liked it and have sold. Very often at a loss. Also you must be very careful as much property is illegal.

Unsure where u get your information about Albox being made up of 80% British people.

I assume u where in the area one road up from Mercadona as this is known as little England as all shops are run by Ex Pats. The other 95% of the town is totally Spanish. Not many Expats live in the town centre but live outside the town normally in villas which either illegal builds or legal builds with a big question mark over their status.
