Yes you are permitted to drive using your UK license, it's only if resident you need a Spanish one.

Yes you can drive on UK licence as a tourist 

It might be worth you splashing out £5.50 for an international driving permit for Spain, available at the post office.  Stops the Guardia getting awkward if you are stopped.

Just to confirm, you *didn’t* go on the Padrón when you bought your holiday home, did you?

I was just about to say the same. However, you go to the Town Hall and get your name removed, they even give you an A4 sheet stating you have been removed. That way no fine and no seizure of your car. Although having said that, it only applies to UK reg cars. But still have to be removed from the Padron

As ladyV stated if your not a resident you should not be on the padron I would go to the town hall and get yourself removed,otherwise you will liable for all sorts oftax as a resident.and your not a resident.  

It’s not just driving a UK plated car that is the problem.  Being on the Padrón makes you quasi-resident in Spain under Spanish law … and therefore liable for Spanish tax.

You could find AEAT chasing you for large sums in the future.

The other issue is of course that UK licences are now no longer valid for residents … see point about Padron making you quasi-resident.

If you’re non resident and on the Padrón, you should de-register as arguing with both DGT / Guardia Civil and Hacienda is an uphill struggle
