Hi All,

Can you offer any advice or help regarding travelling from the UK to Spain by road. I have a property in Spain.

if it is a second home then you will not be able to travel to it until the Spanish Government allows free travel if you have residencia and are travelling to your home here then you can but with difficulties in various areas.  you'll need a Covid test as well 72 hours before you travel.

The Covid test is only applicable for those travelling by air or sea, not those driving, say, from Calais. However, travelling through the provinces at this time is not allowed. We will see if that changes on 10 December.

are you sure of this?  thought the test applied to anyone coming from a area in high infection i.e. UK even if coming on the euro tunnel train and driving through France that's of course if they let you!

Not when using the ferries into France. It would be impracticable, as the certificate is taking 48 hours to issue, and to get to the Spanish border is normally going to take more than 24 hours if stops are made en route.

Many Facebook forum members will attest to this.

Of course it is different if coming directly into Spain, by ferry, Santander, Bilbao.

Here's the quote:

"Health minister Illa has confirmed that the PCR requirement is obligatory for all travellers arriving in Spain by sea and air, but will not be required at land borders. Not only foreigners arriving in Spain but also Spanish citizens and residents have to comply with the demand."

Marion is correct.

No PCR test is required when travelling by road to Spain.

Spain’s borders with France and with Portugal are not staffed and remain open. Many Brits are driving on motorways, paying tolls, travelling direct through France and Spain to get to their homes here, without being stopped by police.

If you ARE stopped make sure you have evidence of your tunnel or ferry crossing on you, residencia/TIE etc.

Also carry the required form issued by France on the purpose of the journey (and stating that you are not showing any Covid symptoms).

Try to avoid department towns, municipalities. Avoid travel during the night curfew period.

All very helpful, however, our dilemma is that deeds to the property we're buying should be completed next week 5th-9th Dec. So no TIE/Residentia due to the delays in completion. How does this affect UK to Spain travel by road prior to xmas. We are moving here to live

Theoretically, you cannot cross from one municipality to the next. Only those who are coming back from the UK to their place of residence are permitted to do that, with supporting documents.

Why don't you phone your solicitor in Spain to get definitive advice? Do you have one? Maybe then they could email you supporting documentation.

Thanks. Yes we do have Solicitor in Albox, will speak to them on Wednesday just trying to look at various options. Getting to the point of sitting it all out for a while.
