Hello I live in Almeria and looking to learn Spanish. Are there any schools for mature beginners in the area

Hi Julie,

On this forum there are threads regarding learning Spanish. Have a look and you'll get the hang of what way will suit you to learn. My immediate advice is to try one of the methods and not be too hard on yourself. Enjoy the experience. Be aware when you start at Nil there is only one way you can go. You can't get to minus nil or lower.

I stress that you should enjoy every minute learning Spanish. Don't take on anything you don't enjoy. If you do find out why you don't enjoy doing whatever and fix it so that you will enjoy. [Probably bad English from me, but drive on and I bet you'll surprise yourself at your progress].

If you think you sound stupid or look stupid at your Spanish progress be reassured you're in a better place than you were before you started learning.

Oh! Take your time at whatever standard you're at and share your Spanish with others and let them share theirs with you. Remember you can't lose if you keep going.

Hi Julie. I live near Almería and am in the same boat. I'm doing Spanish With Paul online which is great but doesn't develop your listening. My advice would be to join a club of whatever you're interested in and do the "in at the deep end" thing. Watch Spanish TV, go to the cinema, listen in on conversations. I've been here a year and that's worked for me so far.

Try duolingo on the Internet, it's free and I find it helpful.  Also butterfly spanish on YouTube.

Lots of the townhalls do free lessons for foreigners, although covid has taken its toll.

Also try watching Spanish TV.  Kids programmes and news programmes are helpful.  The news has subtitles so you can see and hear the language and its repeated regularly.  Basically, anything that exposes you to Spanish.

Best bit is the Spaniards are very kind and if you try they will try to help you.  Enjoy and don't be afraid to try.  Good luck K
