I have just received this from the UK

*BEWARE* Just had my bank call me saying they'd seen suspicious activity going on in my account, it was a sale of £749. While I was on the phone he said he couldn't take my customer number over the phone so he sent me a text with a cancellation form attached and asked me to fill it out whilst I was on the phone, something didn't feel right and I said I wasn't happy putting my details on this form, he told me if I didn't fill it in they couldn't stop the payment coming out, I still said I wasn't happy so he told me to visit the bank instead. After the call I called my bank, it's the latest scam that's going round and these people put pressure on people to put their details in if not they won't be able to stop the 'fraudulent' payment! Please could people be aware and pass the word onto people who may be a bit more vulnerable, they sound very genuine knowing who you bank with, your full name and phone number and people could very easily fall for it.

really good programme on Scammers on BBC1 in the mornings frightening how people fall for these callers and give over all the information they ask for without question.  Most seem to have a Amazon account which is used to convince them that fraud is taking place.  First thing that crossed my mind is how the scam calls were all Indian accents and that would make me suspicious straight away because that is where their call centres are based.

I get endless emails telling me I have won this and that or that my Paypal account is compromised (don't have one) and just delete all of them but can see how it easily something that could draw someone in.

Plus the endless emails telling how to get a bigger togger difficult that one as I am defo female or a Russian/Ukranian girlfriend not sure what I would want one for.  Wonder how they get the email contact in the first place.

Why did you even answer the phone in the first place? Did the number come up in your contacts as the 'bank' ? I think not. It would have been an unknown number.

'Wonder how they get the email contact in the first place.'

Its simple Alicia - they phfish. Every time you accept 'cookies or agree to their terms and conditions ' they have your data. You are on their database. They know everything about you that you have available - on your phone or laptop. And then they sell that database to make money. Most of them are harmless and are just spamming you.

Again my advice is simple. Do not answer any calls that do not refer to a contact that you know. Any number that you do not recognise do not answer. Certainly my phone tells me who is calling me.  If its just a number ignore it. If you think its someone you 'might' know SMS them back to confirm it is them. If you have no response block the number. Same with emails. Do not read or open any email or attachment to that email ( it could contain a phishing virus) unless its someone you know, simply block it. If it is someone desperate to speak to you they will send you a letter.

In my 60 years of having a bank account my bank has never called me. If you see something wrong on your account call them or go to the bank in person.

Its tiresome and repetitive I know but its the world we live in.

Stop me! I could go on for hours !!!!!

Stay safe on line!!!!!!

Just to add to the problems of scammers the banks cock up too.  My UK bank sent me an email yesterday asking for me to register for online banking.  As I am already registered I immediately thought scammers....,. No it was a genuine bank email, gremlin in their system apparently 🤨🤨.  So it's back to if I can't feel it, see it, touch it or taste it I won't trust it.

I’m registered.  Hasn’t cut down on nuisance call centres or spam calls

What HAS helped us an app I’ve installed called TrueCallerID - when you receive a call it will come up “Spam Caller”, “Call Centre” or whatever

Maybe I'm a bit of a fuddyduddy. I don't talk to anyone I don't know. That isn't to say I am not willing or even happy to talk to people I meet in the street or face to face. But when I am cold called by a number I do not know it doesn't get answered.

Indeed, on an iPhone ( and probably others ) there is a facility to mute any incoming call that is not in your contact list. Its brilliant. At the end of the day review, block the number and delete as necessary.

This may sound harsh. I pay my phone bill so that I have the means and pleasure to communicate with people of my choice. I do not pay my phone bill so that people unknown to me can invade my privacy.

Phones and email is very simple. Its just like receiving letters through the post. Put them in the bin. If it was important rest assured you will get another.

Except companies like Linea Directa use differing numbers - TrueCallerID identifies them.

Then there’s Correos - I’ve been called by Correos a couple of times and it’s a very long non-standard Spanish number

Then there’s Amazon - have received calls from them, and from various couriers / correos employees usually on mobile numbers, delivering packets or parcels …

then of course there’s clients, calling for the first time to book services or Yoga etc …

simply blocking numbers not in my contacts list isn’t going to work for me - I’d lose a lot of business doing that.

We all have to take the right precautions to suit our own circumstances
