Believe me you don't want to touch Goldcar with a bargepole. If you can find the posts from the various forums incl. Facebook. Seems to be systematic fraud..Apparently even reported nationally in UK.

The only positives seem to be from those who have purchased their all-inclusive insurance.

Stepson had money removed from CC as have so many others. Some liberally in 100s of €€€€s or £££££s.

We have regularly used GoldCar and all the other providers since 2011, 6 times a year from Alicante and Murcia and find them all much the same. We tend to book through DoYouSpain who act as a comparison website but seem to promote a certain provider at various times of the year. 

Regardless of who we hire from we have a routine we go through when we arrive at the desk, getting best price for insurance (don't take the first price offered) and getting a diesel car without paying a premium for upgrade. 

I would also make sure that there is free cancellation as the prices fluctuate regularly and this way you can cancel and re-book, sometimes with the same company for less. 

Bob and Sandra have obviously had a bad experience with Goldcar, we on the other hand would put them high on our preferred provider list.

Totally agree with Bob avoid at all cost we were charged for damage on a car that was returned in perfect condition, and lots more have had the same issue

The local media has been awash.in recent weeks with complaints specifically about Goldcar. Posters have alleged spurious claims by Goldcar against damages not proven on.photos & videos.

By all means use them but for your own protection & peace of mind you need to factor in taking out THEIR INSURANCE as apparently that's the only policy/ cover they honour.

Gratefully we live here and have friends so not dependent on hire cars from any Company

Dave Baxter of Andalucíacar hire is excellent - just give him cash and off you go - no upselling extra credit card payments etc. Someone recommended him to me on this forum  [email protected] and have used twice so much less hassle than the big companies!

Totally agree re Goldcar - I watched them aggressively upselling insurance to an elderly couple in Alicante - it was horrid. Then the articles in The Daily Telegraph about the fraud re claiming damage on a vehicle that didn’t exists and customers long battles to get their money back. If you do hire from the video the whole car with the date showing before you drive off!
