Hi Pat .

As an Irish person who has lived in Spain for 10 yrs,you can get private insurance here very cheaply.

My husband and I pay 90 euros for both of us for the month.

Can't remember what age you said but the E11 card only covers for holidays.

So unless you are 70 or over you will not be covered by Ireland.Hope this helps .

Thanks Sharon.

Both the Irish HSE and long email from Philippine Embassy in London (who wrote in great detail)  told me that via the E121 option that I can transfer my Irish medical entitlements to Spain.

There is an EHIC card (European Health Insurance Card) that covers you if you are temporarily in Spain. I have that.

The E121 is a different matter altogether and gives you public medical insurance and reductions on medications.

So I have been told.

If this is not true I will take advice from you re that medical insurance you have.

Am 65 (66 in August).

Thanks for info.

Pat

Hi Pat

As I have never been entitled to medical care for most of my life although I was always working ,I don't know about that particular form. But always worth a try .

Hi Pat. As far as I can see Dario is spot on with all the residence requirements you will need to fulfil.

As he says, you will need to get an officially authorised translation done in Spain of your Philippines marriage certificate but whilst still there get it apostiled (officially stamped/authorised as genuine by the authorities) - no more than 3 months before you leave to come here.

You will also need translated copies of your Irish and any other income letters. Again, done by officially authorised translaters once here.

To clarify the health entitlement as there seem to be some crossed wires probably regarding retirement age.

As an EU citizen you are entitled to enter the Spanish system as long as you are a STATE pensioner in your own country, based as I understand it on your contributions into the National system during your working life. I am not sure how this works if you have not made contributions in an EU country.

Many thanks JaneB.

Am currently on a type of state pension which I qualified for through my welfare contributions over my working life.

This automatically changes to 'old age contributory pension' this coming August when I turn 66.

Thanks again.

Pat
