Guys, have any of you been told when buying your house that there was a special condition.. As in there are squatters in the house you wish to buy??... This sounds to me to be very dodgy... Advice.. The agent said they can have to sell the house to remove the squatters..?

squatters in Spain have ultimate rights of occupation if the house was empty when they got in.  Selling a house would not get them out only taking them to court which takes a long time.  if children are involved then they are even less likely to be evicted as it would render the children homeless.

in the Costa del Sol there are organised gangs going round selecting empty properties, even in gated communities, and changing the locks and then selling the keys to sometimes unsuspecting renters.  During Covid with so many second homes left unoccupied they have been able to pick them out easily.  many owners do not have anyone to keep an eye on the property and even if they do it is not 24hrs.

never buy a property with squatters in it.

Spot on Alicia, laws are changing but to be honest, there is enough stress buying/moving home without going down that route.

I have to ask, why would you consider it?

Thanks guys, I just asked because it wasn't said first when I enquired about the house, and the agent said that it needs to be sold to remove the people from it! They are there illegally and will only move if the property was sold, its in  good area and a good price... But I thought I'd seek advice from the forum! So there you have it jack that's why 😊😊
