Flies are worse inland nearer to the pigs but you never entirely escape them, that's southern Spain! You won't see nearly as many in the winter, it's mainly a summer thing. I think there's lots to do in all of the areas folks have mentioned.

Keep in mind that even some of the remote cortijos are only a five or ten minute drive from civilization...you just won't be surrounded by shops and bars.

Albox is quite spread out with a variety of expat and Spanish shops and a market on Tuesdays. It has gyms, a good dentist, physio. The further inland you go will be a lot colder in the winter; it can also sufffer with high winds. Bare this in mind in terms of renting as the houses can be quite cold in winter due to no insulation and often just a fire in the lounge.

My husband and I are looking to retire to almeria but initially would like to rent first and have a look around the different areas we will not be driving so we would like to have access to public transport  and within walking distance to amenities. Can anyone give us any ideas and also we are setting ourselves a maximum budget of 500 euro per month for rent of 2 bedrooms and can someone give us some idea of the cost of utilities and WiFi etc also where is the best weather in winter we are planning to come out from 1st February until 31st May initially many thanks Anne

My name is Pam. I have an apartment in Palomares. It will be rented from January to April. If you find that you need an apartment after that date it will be available I will send you details of it and the surrounding area and village if you send me your email address, so you can see what it is like there.  There is a bus service in the village ,banks and supermarkets restaurants etc.  All will be in my details if you would like to see the area for information

Afternoon, try looking around Palmores,, and Los Gallardos some nice reasonably priced properties.. both have small communities and there's a good market Sundays in the centre of Palmores. We ended up being tricked by an employer which led to our dreams falling apart so weve ended up back in the UK..

good luck,

Hi Carol,

It’s Pam , [ pines) remember me, we were talking earlier this.  you were considering my apartment. In Palomares. I think you liked it but your husband thought it was too far for him to call in at lunch time to see you. It’s still available if you were interested.  Sorry you had  to come back to the UK. Hope you are well. Get in touch

Pam
