We’re so confused as to what part of Almeria to look at, we’re going to move there in a cpl of years however we would like to come out before then to get the feel of where we want to be, albox looks good what are your views on this?

If you're not confused and if you are thinking of buying property in Spain, then there is something wrong. So, you are confused. Great! That shows you are thinking logically of what and where you wish to buy.

I suggest you rent in an area in the off season for no less than 5 weeks. Then you will learn if that area and Spain are for you. This will probably be the best money you spent.

You are thinking of investing much money in Spain. Know what you are doing every step of the way.

There are some safety nets to consider e.g. don't sell up in the UK; it probably will make sense to rent out your UK home so that if a retreat is necessary you can do so in a dignified way.

Hi,

Previous poster has it spot on. Pity you don't have a motorhome.or caravan & 4x4 as loads of places to stop and then explore.

Albox/ Arboleas you would have to pay me to live there. (& we started in Albanchez ). 'Little Britain' but then not to keen on our Mojacar Apt. Wife loves it. I Prefer the solitude of the cottage. You see the point? It's horses for courses!!!!!!

I would.go one further and rent both in Summer & Winter. Almost 2 different places.

Summer-heat, increase population, noise, fiestas, flies, AC & cost of electric, etc

Winter-how cold you may find it, log.burners, quieter, even abandoned in some areas.

Everything changes and so different from when we moved out in 2002/3.

Oh.the crooks & conmen are still around & the bureaucracy gets worse.

My beloved spend 3 years researching and 4 trips before she moved out-on.her own.

She loves it.

Best of luck.

Why not tell the forum a bit about what you like and dislike: -town/rural, expat company/Spanish community, seaside /country speak any Spanish/ no Spanish, retired/looking to work, newbuild flat/tradional type house general budget and so on. You could get better advice then- this is a very helpful forum!

Some things to bear in mind:-

1. Total Cost.

2. Additional costs (solicitor, real estate agent, utilities, furntiture, travel etc).

3. Investment costs. Taxes, trusting meet-and-greet people, maintenance, insurance, breakages (an uncaring/drunk smoker can wipe out your furniture value in minutes).

4. Advertising.

5. Prospective tenants (many renting out property have their own ideas to whom they don't wish to rent).

6. Rental opportunities.

7. Threats - can you take the financial hit? Always assume your property will decrease in value.

8. Brexit (although I believe it will never happen, but you have to take the Brits' trust on board that they won't elect a near junkie as leader of the Tories). Or even an Etonian Fool.

9. Your spouse's/partner's views on the venture.

10.Your ability not to break your own rules. This is probably your most onerous task.

We've been in almeria since Nov '17 and have loved it but which area is best! Mojacar is expensive! Bedar is up in hills and spectacular, it all depends what you want, beach or inland, we have rented since we've been here til we find right place and property for us.

Good luck with your search!

Hi Guys

First post on this forum cos still in 'research' mode. Been out to Spain from top to bottom and seem to be drawn to Andalucia, then Almeria, and finally Bedar. Stayed out there last week in gorgeous weather but what's it like through the winter months??!

Being a spontaneous person, I put offers in on three properties in and around the village, however, I've just heard that I lost out on my favourite to a Belgium couple, but I'm in with a shout on the other two.

I'm therefore nipping back over in a few days with my wife, to take a second look. Also trying to sort out a long term winter rental just like Bob and Mathew have suggested.

So.....any helpful tips would be gratefully received!

Many thanks

Vin
