Hi all I would like to introduce our selves, we are Steve & Karen. We have just bought our house in Albanchez. When we came round to view the town we thought that it was perfect and quiet. We are moving in on the 24th.

Hello Steve & Karen,  A warm welcome to Spain, hope you have a wonderful life here. Just thought you may like to know your nearest big supermarket " Mercadona " is either Olula -Del-Rio or Albox I prefer Olula myself  bigger store with a lovely fresh food counter, lovely ready to eat  meals. Hope the move goes smoothly.  All the best Hiacynth.

Hi Steve and Karen

I have just found your post;  we are looking at a property in Albanchez and considering putting an offer on.  Just wondering how you two are getting on, I see you moved there at the end of last year.  This is a big step for us as it is for everyone,  is there an establish ex pat community and can you give me some idea of the monthly outgoing costs? We unfortunately do not speak Spanish and probably too old to learn now!

Any help and feed back on how you are finding things would be very much appreciated - thank you.

Hi we have lived in Albanchez for 19 years, have two bars where ex pats meet.  The living expenses are so much cheaper in Albanchez rates, car tax etc.   There is a newsletter sent out via email informing neighbours of any information that’s appropriate, there is also a neighbour association, which is ongoing although nothing going on at present with COVID.  Our cases are very low and cannot travel to Albox, Olula del Rio for big shopping, but we have everything in Albanchez although limited.  There is a good supermarket in Cantoria we can travel to only small but everything we need.

As for bills the water is cheap via Galasa, most people have log burners wood can be bought locally and the rates are equivalent to the size of the house and land.  Car tax is also equivalent to the size of the engine.  Feel free Contact me if you need any more info.

Hi guys.

Thanks for your email.

As Sandra and Colin have said things can be cheap. We have a pellet burner and we have spent 25€ on heating since we moved in. We have solar hot water which helps greatly. Our electric  boiler is on a timer 6am-8am then the water is heated via the solar then if need be the boiler comes back on at 6pm-8pm. But the most expensive thing is electric. Our electric bill is about 90 ish  We also have a electric hob but we are changing this to gas. gas is about €12-18 a bottle depending where you go. Our car is diesel and we had it e registered here about €900.

Diesel is about 95-106 ish

As for Albanchez we love it the community is great and helpful we have bars , bakers, shop, a doctor's a pharmacy. Cashpoint. Everything you need but the best bit is the people they will help you. We know it's a big step we are in our 50s and can't speak Spanish yet but we are getting by. You have to make The effort. And the views wow. Where abouts are you looking to buy. If you do please pop I  and say hello we are at the top of the hill. If you need any more information I will gladly try to help.take care. Be safe.

Hi Steve,

Many thanks for your message much appreciated.  Sorry I do have another question what would you say on average your monthly expenditure is, I don't mean to be personal but an idea would be appreciated.  At the moment we are looking in a development of villas just outside the town number 35 and 70 I don't know is these means anything to you.  Would you say the walk into town is difficult it looks like a steep hill!

Thank you Gill

Hi Sandra and Colin

Many thanks for your response much appreciated.  It sounds like a very social community which is what we need.  Still looking around the area, is the walk into Albanchez difficult as it looks like quite a steep climb?

Thanks Gill
