Good morning from rainy Uk😭. Can anyone tell me what the winters are like in Almaria and Andalusia areas?. Are they as bad as the UK & last as long as it seems winters last forever here. So depressing. Do you get snow and are the really "bitter" winters. I dont mind a change in seasons as dontbwant to be in high heat all the time but dont want to be trapped in doors for months on ends. I kmow no one can predict weather but just a rough guide be great.

Vera what's snow? we have only experienced it once here in 16 years and that was inland in Arboleas and surprised everybody.  Of course you get heavy rainfall which is nearly always dirty with red dust but you need some rain in this desert.  mostly it is hot and dry throughout the summer and warm and better than the UK in the winter.  We get the odd Gota Fria which is bad weather with flash flooding in the rambla and threats to human life possible.  There was a really bad one in Vera Playa with a wall of water 6ft high going down the road to the sea taking cars with it and lots of mud which took lives and ruined properties but that was due to lack of care with the riverbed and has now been sorted and crossed fingers will never happen again.  you just have to be safety aware in Ramblas which are dry riverbeds but can fill with running water very quickly when it rains.

Hi again Vera,

basically agree with what Alicia said.  I have had snow a few times up in Oria but it is much higher up but it has usually only been a sprinkling lasting a day if that.  On the distant hills/mountains it lasts as of course we have the Sierra Nevada range with ski resort.  My car had about 2/3 inches of snow on it once but the roads are so warm it tends to go within a day and they do grit roads over here.  Best to do some homework as to best areas to live and be aware the higher up you live the more chance of snow.  Temperatures are nothing like the UK in length of time, yes can get very cold in the evenings/night so need heating of some sort and/or an extra jumper but there have been times I've sat outside in winter with just a jumper or even a shirt eating my lunches including two Christmas days.  Rain yes, get a fair bit at times but it is needed, rain during summer tends to be warm and refreshing.

Some cave houses are in very cold areas in the winter months.  they are very warm inside though and cool in the summer.  In Guaudix for instance we visited in September and it was extremely cold.  different way of life to adapt to living in the dark with artificial lighting all the time.

Hi thank you for that. I dont mind the cold tbh as every country gets different seasons just the uk seems to be misrable weather for far too long&its depressing. Some cave houses have been done brilliantly to give as much natural light as poss(bedrooms may not but we only sleep i bedrooms so that wouldnt really bother me). Im looking for more outdoor living for a healthier stress free way of life&the caves seem good value for miney as i have upto £100,000.00 to buy somewhere as only me so dont need a huge property just lots outdoor space&views

you will have to learn Spanish as the cave dwellings are usually very Spanish occupied.

On the coast there isn't much of a winter at all. Most days are sunny and warm, evening's can be a bit chilly in January and February and there are occasional wet days, but no winter as such. Inland can be s lot colder though, especially in the mountains where there can be snow. Days usually still sunny though.
