When applying for residency as a U.K. pensioner I know we have to have an S1 to prove our entitlement to healthcare but I have been informed that we also need “a letter” from the pensions department to prove our pension income. Is that the original pension award letter received when your state retirement pension begins ?

Thank you all in advance

Leon

Hi.

Ive just been through all this .When you apply for your S! which you can only get when your in Spain!. The International pension centre will send the needed form to the address you live in Spain. Our abogados had it translated and along with other paper work needed made us the appointment at Almeria all all went like clockwork. Do Not try do do this yourself   lol.

Let me  know if I can help further

Leon

Hi Leon

Thank you for your prompt reply. The S1 does not show how much your pension income is.

I read on the local esp. website that as well as the S1 you need a letter confirming the amount of pension income but I do not know if your original pension award form will do or if you have to get an up to date letter from the pensions dept

Regards

Marie

Hi.

The UK pension dept will send your UK pension entitlements direct to you when you apply for the S1.They will automatically assume you are living in Spain, so any additional state benefits you may be getting could well get canceled.

The letter they send is what is required for your residency, but will have to be translated.,

Did you not get another letter with the S1 stating your pension payable amount ?

Leon

Hi Leon

When we came to live in France we received an S1 but at that time not a letter stating our pension amount, however France did not ask for proof of income. When we arrive in Spain and contact Overseas Pensions to ask them for  an S1 we will also ask for the income letter as well.

Thank you so much for your advice

Regards

Yes, the pension letter is separate from the S1 and the S1 letter. The S1 is an EU form/statement and does not have to be translated. The pension letter is sent to state pensioners annually and says how much the pension is. That is the letter you need and it has to be translated into Spanish by an appproved translator, your gestor will probably organise the latter. If you have not received a pension letter ask the DWP to send you one to your Spain address.

If you have additional income (i.e. occupational pension) you will need the P60 for it and again it will have to be translated!

Good luck!
Chris

It’s all clear to me now -yes I do receive a letter annually telling me how the much the retirement pension will be from the following April.

Kind Regards

You would need both.  NHS provide the S1 and proof of your pension comes from DWP.  Just been through it.

Sorry, but it is DWP that provides both documents: proof of pension and the S1. The S1 is an EU document and does not require translating but the proof of pension letter does. Attached to the S1 form that the DWP send you is an explanatory letter that confirms that if you require health care/advice/treatment on any visits to the U.K. you are entitled to receive it. Thus I always make sure I take this with me when visiting family in the U.K.

Chris, nope!

This is the team who provided the S1 both by email and by post to the Spanish address.

[email protected]

I think you'll find it states NHS.
