Hi, I did this journey last year (October) from Liverpool  I found the best route from Plymouth, each M6, M5 all the way.  Ferry to Santander and then drove to Vera Playa stopping overnight on way, off motorway by Burgos.

Going home in March I travelled from Portsmouth which was more difficult as a number of motorways.  The ferry was great, and my dog was ok in a large kennel, you can take them out as often as you want for exercise etc.

Good luck beautiful area.

Plymouth is 50 miles further than Portsmouth, we find route to Portsmouth usually quieter using M40 - A34, Plymouth picks up all Cornwall traffic and makes M5 awful. Your choice will be dictated by availability, trying to get accommodation for dog will be deciding factor, dont try booking on line, ring Brittany Ferries, they can see availability which we cant. Spanish end is a doddle, average 65mph no problem, overnight stop at J99 A1, Hotel Mirasierra, dog freindly, into Heurcal Overa by 4pm.

Were travelling this weekend.

Hi Celine, we travel from Portsmouth to Saint Malo stopping just south of Vitoria Gasteiz at the Hotel Ruta De Europa book direct it's a bit cheaper. A lot depends on how much driving you choose to do, for us it works out cheaper and my wife is not to keen on the boat. As for the trip to the ferry that all depends on the time of day you travel. If you book as a friend of a member you will get a discount, use PRICE members number F93565. Good luck John.
