Could anybody tell me the process for Health care in Spain if you are under retirement age ie 60 and do not work or pay taxes in Spain but have residentia in Spain?

DWP  UK state SO40 and SO41 forms which takes the individual off UK NHS and puts the individual onto Spanish system?

Any contacts or information would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards

Ken

Hi, not sure as to how the system works for people coming to Spain under retirement age, as far as we know, private healthcare might the best option,.

Your E111 or Ehic will only get you emergency treatment.

Best thing is possibly contact citizens advice and/or get information from the various uk government advisory centres.

Doubt the Spanish healthcare or social services will stand for anyone just kind of relinquishing the UK NHS and dumping themselves on their doorstep !

There are procedures to go thru, forms to fill in, medical cards etc etc etc, stampd and beurocracy rule here.

We are pension age, me 67 partner 65 and we're waiting for medical cards to aid doctors appointments, meds etc,

To get this far we registered with our doctor in the village, got some forms, went to the local social services in Huercal Overa, back again to the local medical centre having registered with them after the doctors visit, done blood and urine tests, we have to wait now till friends who are coming to stay then we both have to have ECG's done, I will have to have a prostate exam, partner has had a mammogram last year so wont need the one the Spanish healthcare system has in its list of things they do.

Theyre very comprehensive and most everything happens inside a few days, couple that with an award winning local hospital and around 2 dozen ambulancias at the local station and you get the feel that Spain leaves the UK standing still,

.As above you ned paperwork, lots of it, you need to carry most everything you have collected and in most cases in duplicate or triplicate every time you go out.

There are government agencies as well as citizens advice you can reference as well.

Best of luck and regards, let us know how you get on.

Lol janisis

Partner recently took our forms fully completed and stamped to the local medical centre and she was told in no uncertail terms to go back to the doctor and social service and get the same forms, fill them in, get them stamped and everything that we'd gotten done with the 1st set of forms.

We subsequently went back to the woman at the health centre with a friend who speaks some Spanish, same forms as 1st time, we had to seperate partners forms from mine, hers were processed ok because she had her NIE, my de facto NIE was on my residencia, I had to go to the shop over the road to get my residencia and NIA number copied, go back to the medical centre where the lady doing al the demanding and knocking back had dissapeared only to be given my copy forms back and informed the papers to get our medical cards would be processed and cards sent in the next 3 weeks.

Thats why you cant just throw yourself on the Spanish healthcare system. Beurocracy rules here !!lol

Oh yes, forgot, you need your passport, your Padron etc etc, copies in duplicate and/or triplicate. The more forms the better.

Cant speak for Mojacar tho, were inland a bit, Urcal about 12 minutes outside of Huercal Overa, small village where we share medical facilities, clinics blood works etc with another small village called Santa Maria de Nieva, small maybe more beautiful lol.
