Hi,
Might I suggest you ring the staff at CAT Services, El Alfoquia. Would be substantive, factual advice &'save you serious future problems.

As far as I am aware, it is standard practice. When I rented an unfurnished in Garrucha, I was asked to cover the building. Usually based on square meters, I think.
I don't think they have special "Landlord" insurance here like in UK.
:)
my property is furnished surely this makes a difference

We own our apt of 91m and the Insurance plus 24K furnishings, etc was 150€.However we also pay fees to the Complex which cover the public spaces.
Is this a private rent or through a Company as frankly it all sounds a bit iffy. Rentals now are controlled by the ayuntamiento with strict rules; AC, heating .etc. Landlords are renting privately to avoid the regulations & additional expense..
Really suggest that IF you are concerned you take FORMAL advice. With respect would NEVER act on supposition alone.

No, I don't think so. You will need to provide for both building and contents. Your deposit will not cover total loss.
Try asking another letting agent if it standard practice. If you are renting directly I believe you are at the whim of the owner.
