Hi everyone, does anyone have any recomendations for a good weedkiller please?

We have a holiday home in the campo and everytime we get there, (not that we can at present) we have to fight our way to the front door. Everything we have tried so far has been rubbish and the weeds, those harsh grasses, are almost as tall as I am.

Has anyone had any luck please?

Thanks

Matthew

1. You can buy weed killer occasionally in Lidl/Aldi. It costs around €10.00 but there's enough stuff there to kill off any weeds. You probably will need 2 or 3 treatments within six weeks of the first. Much will depend on how much water you mix with the concentrate.

2. If you can chat up some bar owners who are prepared to collect thousands of cigarette butts it could be your best bet. Place all the butts in a large bucket of water for about four/six weeks. Keep the bucket covered. After 4/6 weeks pour in the area where you wish the weeds to be killed. Believe nothing will regrow in this area for a long time. With what you describe I'd do a 2nd dose about 10 days after the first.

Wow thank you.

I dont know what my husband will think of the cigarette butts as he hates smoking 🤣so that looks like a job for me.

I appreciate you taking time to reply and will try these ideas when we get there.

If you are going the Fag Butt route ensure you keep the bucket outdoors. Use enough butts and nothing will ever grow where you have poured it. Get a smoker to spread the stuff and he/she may never smoke again.

I should have said to sieve the liquid for "spraying" which will kill off all weeds for generations to come. But, don't discard the butts/tobacco either. Although drenched they can be buried around your perimeter (say 9 inches deep) and you'll never have a problem with feral cats, stray dogs, snakes, creepy-crawlies and even some birds.

A while ago, as I understand it, strong weed killer was banned for sale to the public, you have to attend a training course, and be certified to buy it now, or, get someone in.

I was interested in this too and saw they sell it on Amazon but it states that it is TOXIC to dogs! The cost is just over 6 euros for 500ml.  There are plenty to choose from on Amazon.es including Round Up.

About the strong herbicides being banned unless you have proof of having done a course in their safe use - that is true if you are buying large containers for agriculture, but in the small quantities for domestic gardens you can still find the more lethal stuff without going on a special course.
