Hi

We’ve been plagued by wasps in and around our pool. We’ve destroyed a number of nests and tried wasp traps and a liquid (Diavispas) which you put on the surface of the water. Nothing has made the slightest difference.

There are always 20 or so wasps sitting on the surface of the water and pestering swimmers. if we kill them another load appear within minutes!

We are at our wits end and close to giving up on the pool as it’s a lot of work with no reward!

Has anyone else experienced this problem and managed to solve it?

Mostly they come to drink.  We found using a few drops of fairy liquid in the pool shallow end coupled with some of the the saucers from plant pots.  Put the saucers away from the pool with water in and a couple of pebbles.  The wasps find it difficult to drink the pool water because you change the viscosity and they can't land.  So instead they go to the water in the saucers and find they have convenient pebbles to perch on.  Sounds mad but it worked for us.  We were happy not to kill all the wasps as they eat flies (I hate them more)

We still got rid of as many nests as we could though.  Good luck, hope this helps.

Thanks I have heard of putting a little washing up liquid in the water so I’ll give this a try. How far away did you place the pots? I have put a few pots with water in other parts of the garden and it is attracting the wasps.

You  are right about the flies though. A load coming of wasps = less flies!!

Thanks got your tip. I look forward to trying it out!

We started with the saucers on the edge and gradually moved them further away.   They were probably 6 or 8 feet away in the end
