Ireland and the EU

1. Rep of Ireland although in the EU is not a participant of the Schengen Treaty.

2. There is free movement between Rep of Ireland and the UK so you can come to RoI as aften as you wish and stay for whatever time that suits you. 

3. Citizens of the UK do not need a passport to visit RoI although Ryanair make it a condition of travelling from anywhere to anywhere with them.

4. Just a point of fact:- Since Brexit there has been an increasing number of Brits emigrating to RoI. Mostly they enhance the community in which they live and RoI is all the richer for them. Before I get carried away (as usual) don't forget to bring a good quality umbrella. And we will teach you how to speak English properly; it will take some effort but we will rise to the occasion.

James, with due respect people are not interested in theory; newsflash! - It's hard facts that people can educate themselves. Even if a country withdraws from Schengen that country can implement its own travel restrictions/rules.

Leave theory practices to the Tories. That's all they are good at.

With great respect to an Irishman free to have his own interesting views about the way another country runs its affairs, and how they might affect him.

The 'Brexiteers' are mostly in Britain where they voted for the freedom of their own country to which they have a loyalty and affection - and a belief that it is worth putting up with difficulties and problems on the way to achieving the ability to decide their own future...  And satisfied with the result, though it is a work in progress.

Ireland can celebrate gaining many citizens with no particular interest in the country but a pragmatic desire to get a passport to live in Spain. I wish them all the best, as I do the British who choose to live permanently in Spain, but if they do not want to live and belong in a country, they cannot expect that country to run itself for their benefit.
