I was listen to the radio today and I heard a pensioner in tears. She said that the Heath Care for pensioners living overseas (Spain)

only have cover for 1 year (31/12/2020)

then you have to have Private Insurance

which costs a fortune. How can a pensioner

afford that on a British Pension.

Good evening to you Lowie...NOTHING has been decided as yet!

Just wait until we leave the EU, and everything should be 'cleared up'.

The way that the British Parliament is going on, we may NEVER come to a final conclusion!

Hope this helps...🅱️.

Healthcare for U.K. pensioners HAS been decided, and there are posts from time to time in this forum about it!  Spain and the U.K. have renewed the reciprocal agreement to provide free heath care to each other’s pensioner nationals until Dec 2020, which is the end date of the transitional period following any Brexit.

@ chrisso50 - I don't believe you are correct.  Under Johnson's proposed deal, the existing reciprocal arrangements would have continued to the end of the transition period.  But beyond that nothing has been proposed, and Johnson's deal wasn't approved anyway.

If there was to be a hard Brexit tomorrow, then there would be no transition period and all UK citizens resident in Spain would immediately lose their rights to healthcare, with the proviso that the Spanish government have made clear that they will continue to offer the same healthcare arrangements as now if the UK does the same for Spanish citizens in the UK.

The only way to guarantee that a UK pensioner can continue living in Spain with state funded healthcare is to revoke Article 50.  Fortunately there is a clear option to vote for that in the upcoming General Election.

Sorry that you don’t believe it but what I said is correct, even if there is a No Deal Brexit. As I said,

“Spain and the U.K. have renewed the reciprocal agreement to provide free heath care to each other’s pensioner nationals until Dec 2020, which is the end date of the transitional period following any Brexit.”

This would also apply if there is a No Deal Brexit. There have been posts about this on the U.K. govt website and on the Moncloa site. There is no guarantee though, about health care cover after Dec 2020.
