UK car to Spanish plate

I have just changed my uk reg c class merc over to Spanish plates the cost was €1600 including new headlamps

All new tyres to Spanish regulations. 

Change of headlights

Removal of Tow bar

And various other sundries to do with documentation & legality. Then of course the Company fees.

There are various agencies you can contact to get a quote or estimate.

We came over with a UK plated Discovery but returned it to UK 6 months later & purchased Spanish. Just found it difficult driving a RHD vehicle and with Residencia would have needed to matriculate.

Hope it all works out for you but can be discouraging.

Here since new and never insured, ITV.d etc, etc UK.plates, . Never stopped by Police!!!!!!!!!

With Brexit owner enquired about getting it Matriculated. Stated cost 1300€ for a car which in the UK you could get for less than £200.

Partner got her RHD UK Honda Insight Hybrid matriculated for around €1900 which included new headlights at €495 each !!, new tyres, service and some brake work we'd been advised about by John Banks Honda in Cambridge. Road tax with it being a Hybrid is €30, £10 back in the UK.

Anyone thinking of taking bak a matriculated uk vehicle needs to be aware that you'll have to do the opposite of matriculation and have it put back to UK status, or at least that's what we've been told, we kept hold of both the old UK number plates as well as the old UK headlights.

We/I have had no problems at all driving this RHD vehicle, LHD or RHD you still need to be ultra cautious and vigilant on motorways with high speed cars coming at you, I fitted a small convex mirror on the passenger side mirror to help.

In 18 mths I've only been stopped once for a speeding offence, never had a problem with local police or guardi otherwise.

The cost of matriculation ie spanish  plate is based upon the new price of your vehicle even if it is 20 years old. Sell your UK car in the UK. Buy a spanish car its cheaper. Spanish second hand value is amazing compared to the UK. They dont rust here either. Those who say they have never been stopped driving a UK car in Spain after 6 months are very lucky as they can impound/crush your car as it is not legal in spain and then give you a nice big fine. How are they covered for Insurance in spain? I do not know as it is the vehicle and not the driver who is insured in spain.  UK MOT is not worth diddly if the car has been in Spain for more than six months  See a good lawyer who will give you the facts.
