The Leishmaniasis injections take about 10 weeks for three jabs. They may be cheaper to undertake here in Spain. We have followed advice to use the jabs (just an annual booster once the initial ones have been done) as well as the collar - as neither alone are 100% and it’s a dreadful disease. The collar needs regular checking: our dog had an allergic reaction to his Solesto collar but there are different types to select from: he now has a Scalibor.

The rabies injection and pet passport has to be done before entering the EU mainland so allow plenty of time for this.

Hi, understand dogs should not be out in the heat. The pavements can get so hot to cause third degree burns to dogs feet in seconds.

Inconsiderates do not realize you can cook eggs on the pavements during the long summer months so what do you think happens to doggie feet.

Should you be caught out in such circumstances you can be heavily fined by the Guardia-Civil as they fortunately for pets consider such careless cruel actions as "animal cruelty".

Also, should you be caught out in such circumstances keep your dog confined to shadowed pavements - and Go Home!

A large floor fan 40-50€ will keep your dog cool & happy and more importantly through the night.

Search amazon for doggie cool coats. It will help your dog if he is panting or through unfortunate unexpected circumstances you are caught out in the sun.

These coats stay cold for up to four hours and can be reactivated with bottled water.

Finally, unlike adverse comments entered  beforehand, "do not be tempted to sit in the bar with your dog during the afternoon heat, even in the shade, he will still cook even with drinking water".

I like meeting such Inconsiderate Owners!

You will be fine just use consideration.

Yes we have a dog, resident in Spain we consider our Number One and would never put her at risk. Between 11.00am - 7.00pm in summer heat best keep your beloved pet indoors.

Too hot! Do this - put you barefoot on the floor, tarmac, paving slabs, metal covers. If you can keep it there for more than five seconds chances are you will not cook your dogs feet.

I walked by a group of holidaymakers last week, just come out of a session at the bar all standing together laughing away whilst their poor dog was sitting on a cast iron inspection plate. ( A COOKER HOB inotherwords) .

I ran up and took the poor dog of the cast iron cover, then, explained to the woman what she was unknowingly doing. When I persuaded her to touch the cover - she burnt her fingers........ Shame!

Hi

We brought our eighteen year old Yorkie here ,two years ago,and she loves it.

They adapt very quickly, but make sure there is bowls of water around the house,as she drinks gallons of the stuff.

When it's hot, they soon find the shade, like us humans

You can still buy a cool coat to fit him.

As do we ElsieS.

We do get some strange looks when kneeling down to feel the floor!

More alarmingly a lot of them that notice are dog owners.
