Hi Odette, I’ve just completed this, so will give information from my perspective.

There are a few very VERY important things to sort out when getting Residencia - the first and for most I’d say is get yourself an Asesoria / Gestor to help you through the process.  I’d be more than happy to recommend the fantastic lady who helped us, BUT ... she speaks no English; if you want her name and number, send me a PM, failing that I’d recommend talking to C.A.T services in La Alfoquia who can certainly guide you.

Secondly: health.  I assume you are not coming across with a pension so you will need to either become registered with the Spanish Health system (which will mean being registered to pay Autónomo) or obtain Private Health Insurance.  Having an EHIC card won’t cut it for Residencia - you MUST have health care.

Thirdly: finances.  You either need to be able to show an income, either from a job, a pension or your own business OR you need to be able to supply an official document from a Spanish Bank attesting to you having an annual average balance of 9.250,00€. Again, without the financial proof, Residencia application is a non-starter.

Fourth: Padrón - this is the easiest - once you have a rental / own place you need to go to the Ayuntamiento and get registered on the Padrón.  You’ll need a certificate that is dated less than about 6 weeks old to present at Almería

I suggested the Gestor / Asesoria first as whilst it will cost about 100,00€ it will save you much heartache and pain in obtaining Residencia.  I would caution anyone who doesn’t speak at least some Spanish against doing Residencia themselves as NO English is spoken in the Oficina de la Extranjeria in Almería ....

Please feel free to ask more specific questions if you wish - I’ll happily do my best to answer them

Saludos, Darío

Just in addition to my last post and apropos of your original post regarding getting NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero)  Almería now require you have a *reason* for getting one - i.e. major purchase such as a car, for which you will be required to provide a pre-sales invoice.

If you go to Almería just to get an NIE without proof of needing one, you will be refused so please ensure you have pre-sales invoice or other proof of needing a NIE

Hi Dario,

In 3. The.Bank confirming income/ Capital. This assumes you had opened a Spanish Bank Account. I remember years back the Stepsons obtaining NIEs and the first thing needed was a Spanish Bank Account which they then closed once NIE completed.

Best Wishes & hope all well with you.

Hi Bob - yes, Spanish Bank account is needed.  Not needed for NIE but is certainly needed if you are reliant on an average balance for Residencia.

A few more service providers these days are requiring payments from a Spanish bank account if you want to utilise their services as well.  I foresee that possibly this requirement  will become more commonplace in the wake of Brexit.....

Hi,

Carly Flitney is very helpful and definitely reliable.  She will advise free via email no commitments and if applies for your residency for you then makes a very reasonable charge which she will explain.

[email protected]

Best of luck,

Andy.
