We live in Urcal, have been here since late March this year and have had two "bills" in that time, both done as direct debits, there does seem to be a practice of levying standing charges on most utilities. Actual charges dont seem that high and we have a pool which needs toping up due to evaporation in the heat.

Cant comment on Galasa staff speaking any English.

Hello

We are new to the site and have in the process of buying a property in Urcal.  Just out of interest would it be possible to find out what he basic utility charges per month/year are in the area.

Thanks

Hi Anneta and welcome to Urcal.

As above we've been here since late March and had a couple of bills.

One took in the fact we'd developed a leak in the main water line that thankfully ran in the "slab" by the drain cum water trough between the back of the villa and the pool and we managed to cap that line off and re-route it but dont know how much water we lost.

The top up system for the pool got shut off when we re-routed the main line but didnt lose anything but that's responsible for topping the pool back up thru the day as in this heat you can lose up to an inch in evaporation !.

So..............really we're just hoping that now things have settled down, oh forgot leaks on the irrigation system which keeps popping off lol. Now things seemed to have settled, the next bill should be our worst and will regularise from there.

By all means when you get here pop down and find us, we're at the motorway end of the road leading out of the village at the back of the big street lamps and the post boxes, number 68, off the road, follow the road down and keep right, big black gate, long long hedge white Honda in the drive.

Or come to the coviran bar Thursday its darts night lol, you can have a drink, food and meet lots of new friends and potential new neighbours who can maybe advise you as well or even better.

Basically, water is cheaper than the UK electricity is possibly a bit cheaper or on a par with the UK, depends how you use it.

Most places have a/c, hot and cold, lots of places have ceiling fans, partners villa has both, we run the pool pumps once a day, fan in the bedroom most of the night, cooker we use minimally and we dont have the tv on much at all. Think that covers most things, if you want to be more specific then as I said above, pop down and have a chat. Wines usually in the fridge or (red wine) on the rack, tea coffee via cafe au lait just a minute to do lol.

Hope you like it here as much as we've come to love it in a small space of time.

Hi Ann n Jim

Thank you for coming back to us so quickly.  We hope to complete on the property in Oct 2017 and are looking forward to eventually retiring to the property.

Thank you for the information you have given, we are looking forward to our eventual move.  My partner Phill will be out earlier than myself, but we will make sure we pop by.  I believe we are not too far from the motorway either.

We are very excited at the prospect of living in Urcal and obviously exploring the surrounding areas.

We look forward to speaking to you again here on the forum and in person.

Thanks again

Veronica & Phill

Hi Ann & Jim

It has been a while since we were on the forum, I think it was back in August, but we completed on our villa yesterday, in the lovely village or Urcal. We have read your many posts on the village Urcal, and can't wait to get involved with the locals and obviously the expats that have made their home there. Your posts are very informative.

We are not too far from you based on where you have suggested on previous posts in fact we are on the outskirts of the village within walking distance of the mailboxes.  Looking forward to meeting you both at some point in the not too distant future.

Regards

Veronica & Phil

Hi

We are in Las Labores and get a water bill every 8 weeks

You can register on their web site to receive your bills on line and it’s in English the bill breakdown shows the standing charge

Hope this helps

Peter
