Hi all, I am Shay and have just joined the forum as my family are wanting to buy in Huercal. We have a 3yr old pedigree staffie we want to bring over with us to holiday until we move over permanently to retire. I know these are on the dangerous dog list,  but how do they go about assessing whether this pertains to your dog, andcan we bring him over just for visits without any problems? Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

SHAY

Try www.citizensadvice.org.es. My understanding is that you can actually chat to an English speaking person. Never used it myself as we have been here for 14 years and only discovered it from Forum post ourselves. We have cats as fosterers.

There is an English speaking Vet on bottom road in Huercal Overa, Angel Vets and loads of Brits go there. They are on www and as you will poss be using them they may well be able to offer advice. If you can't find.them will try & get contact details.

Otherwise it would be the Guardia Civil and that might be difficult.

Best of luck and remember Lieshmaniasis and Bot flies out here.

Hi,

We brought our two German Shepherds over last October and not had any problems and we use the above mentioned vets (who are excellent!).  Some Spanish are nervous of the bigger dogs (and black dogs are apparently unlucky!).  Our's are very well trained and will come back when called but I always take their collars and leads out when I walk down in the Rambla just in case, not that I ever come across anyone apart from the odd rabbit!  As long as your dog's paperwork/passport are in order, you will won't have a problem.  When my husband drove them here, no one even checked the dogs at the Spanish border!

Good luck!

Oh great that is really good to know. Dexter is well behaved and invariably will roll over when he sees another dog. Thank you for your reply

Hi, it's Bob again on same thread. Apparently it is illegal for dogs to be off the lead although many/most people Brits and Spanish ignore this. However if there is an incident then a dog not on a leash is illegal. There is also the question of hunters, especially around the hunting season, who will summarily shoot an animal in that it might interfere with the nests/young/eggs of Red Leg Partridge.

Lastly although this is totally illegal, hunters will bait with poisoned meat in an attempt to kill foxes (and anything else come to that). This, as stated, is illegal but it happens, in fact on our mountain, and if caught they can be prosecuted but dogs die in agony. If you go onto www,arboleasforum.co.uk you can find threads where people are reporting on such occurrences.

Your pet is too precious to risk,

Bob & Sandra

When friends bring their friends with them to visit we insist they stay on a lead

Hi again, dud you speak to the Vet, etc. Only because a few days ago I was speaking to Julie at Maz's Canine Rescue and I think she saud Staffies were on proscribed list out here.

Can I suggest you look at Maz's Canine Rescue on fb ( no www) & maybe messenger her???? Can get tel no if you like and think on whatsapp.

What hate to find you have difficulties with police.
